I normally operate all of my devices/apps in light mode, unless it’s after dusk (I use auto switching where possible). However, every once in a while, I use dark mode during the day too, for specific circumstances where for some reason the normal mode is hurting my head.

Today is one of those days. And I’m VERY thankful for the desktop environments and applications that make it easy to switch back and forth (esp. XFCE, Sublime Text/Merge, Firefox w/Dark Reader, Todoist, & Slack today πŸ™‚ )

Saturday mornings are for…

  1. workouts.
  2. coffee.
  3. upgrading DigitalOcean droplets.
  4. all of the above.

If you selected 4, all of the above, you are correct.

😁

Me: attempts to install app on MacBook Pro

Sorry, that app only works on the latest version of the OS.

Apparently I have to update Mac OS now. πŸ˜•

Sometimes I wish everything worked like Linux. It feels β€œsimpler” in many respects…

For some reason this THROUGHLY amused me. Probably because it’s so true… πŸ˜‚

Spent part of the afternoon rebuilding my little Z-Wave network with a new Zooz USB Stick and my Home Assistant running on a Raspberry Pi 4. I’d been having issues with my old Z-Wave stick not being detected properly (ever since migrating to the RPi4), and after reading through the workaround/“fix” over the weekend, I decided to just upgrade to a better-supported adapter.

Now I can once again reliably control my lights (including Christmas lights) from my phone, as expected! πŸŽ‰

Listening to GregKH’s keynote from the recent Linux App Summit while I work this morning.

I’ve heard bits and pieces of this content before, but this is by far one of the most concise presentations of it in recent memory. The biggest takeaway? “Don’t break userspace - we want users to upgrade without worry”.

Definitely worth checking out, both for Linux fans, and even more importantly for software developers.

Has anyone here on Fosstodon gotten their hands on a Raspberry Pi 400 yet? I’ve been keeping an eye on U.S. purchasing options, but so far they’ve all either been out of stock, or are allowing pre-orders/backorders, but won’t be shipping for weeks. πŸ™
