I realized today that I’ve been enjoying the Ivory experience on my phone to such an extent that I’m only really viewing Mastodon in the browser once or twice a week now.

To put that in perspective, in the years that I’ve been on Mastodon, I’ve never stuck with an app for more than a few days, and have always just used the web client. Huge props to the team at Tapbots for their work so far!

… And I just got into the Ivory Desktop Beta! πŸŽ‰

Bring Back Personal Blogging

From Monique Judge, writing for The Verge:

In the beginning, there were blogs, and they were the original social web. We built community. We found our people. We wrote personally. We wrote frequently. We self-policed, and we linked to each other so that newbies could discover new and good blogs.

The best blogs gave us a glimpse into the life of someone we β€œknew” online. Good storytelling, coupled with a lively discussion afterward, kept us coming back for more day after day.

2022 Year in Review

2022-12-31 4 min read

πŸŽ„ Merry Christmas everyone! πŸŽ„

β€œFear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10–11

Just completed reading my 30th book in 2022, Attack Surface by Cory Doctorow. πŸ“–

It’s been a few years since I read any books related to cybersecurity, fiction or otherwise. I probably should more often, if for no other reason than to keep myself from becoming too lax by not thinking of the implications of the decisions I make, and/or the tools I use.

My Search for the Perfect Note-Taking Solution

2022-09-09 6 min read

Warning: I have no conclusions in this blog post. These are just my somewhat-rambling thoughts on a topic that I spend way too much time thinking about.

Introduction

I have a love/hate relationship with note-taking apps. I’ve been trying out different solutions for over a decade at this point, but have yet to ever feel perfectly at home with any system I’ve tried, which leaves me constantly looking for improvements instead of just settling in and using my system.
